Meet Florida's Turtles (at REI)

  • Sun, January 04, 2026
  • 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
  • REI Winter Park classroom

From the sandy uplands to the freshwater springs, Florida is home to a fascinating variety of turtle species. This session will begin with a broad overview of all the terrestrial and freshwater turtles found across the state, highlighting what makes each group unique in terms of habitat, behavior, and adaptations. As we narrow our focus to Central Florida, you’ll learn about the species you’re most likely to encounter while hiking, paddling, or exploring local preserves. Nicole will share stories and insights from the field, helping you recognize and appreciate these often-overlooked reptiles in your own outdoor adventures. Participants will have the opportunity to examine real biofacts—shells, bones, and other tangible items that offer a hands-on connection to turtle biology. And yes, you’ll get to meet a few ambassador turtles up close! Family friendly program!
